In December 2018 Machynlleth Town Council unanimously declared a climate emergency after receiving a petition from the local community.
A public meeting set up working groups to develop ideas about how Machynlleth could move to be as carbon neutral as possible, and to involve people from all parts of the community in making such a plan.
In July 2019 the groups produced an interim report for the Council.
They continue to meet, and ran a "Futures for All" event in November 2019 (pictured) but the coronavirus lockdown has slowed things down.
In June 2021, 'Climate Action Boost' funding from the National Lottery Community Fund helped ecodyfi appoint a Climate Officer to work across the Dyfi Biosphere. This funding is also providing three Ebikes and a thermal imaging camera for helping homes become more energy efficient.
